Default Whats wrong with being a Southern California 49ers fan? L.A. does not have an NFL team, not everybody likes the Raiders

or the Chargers down here. I'm just starting this discussion, argument, because I don't like the backlash, crap I have received from some people for me being a 49ers fan in Southern California, I've lived in Southern California my entire life, born and raised here, Orange County to be exact. The crap, backlash I've received have been from some San Francisco Giants fans or San Jose Sharks fans, they expect me to be a fan of all the other Bay Area Professional Sports teams, or that it is not right to be a 49ers NFL fan and be a fan of Southern California Professional Sports teams like the Angels, Ducks, Lakers, etc. I find that to be very unfair, just because the L.A. Metropolitan area, market, which includes L.A. County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernadino County, and Ventura County lacks an NFL team means we have to be either a Raiders fan or a Chargers fan, eventhough the Raiders moved back to Oakland 16 years ago, and Oakland is in the Bay Area, they don't care or don't mind SoCal natives being Raider fans(Yes the Raiders used to be in L.A., the 49ers never have been, but the Raiders have been in the Bay Area for more than half their history) but they seem to have a problem with SoCal natives, residents being a 49ers fan. There are tons of Cowboys and Steelers fans in Southern California, or throughout all of California and I bet that half of them are probably not even transplants, in which they have no relative connections to Texas or Pennsylvania. For example, there are tons of Dallas Cowboys I bet who are not even fans of the Dallas Mavericks or Texas Rangers, or Steelers fans who are not Pittsburgh Pirates fans, or Pittsburgh Penguins fans, but yet they don't get crap or backlash, at least the 49ers are a California NFL team. And no, I'm not hinting out that I want the 49ers to move to L.A., I hope they stay in the Bay Area, but it would be nice if L.A. or Orange County had an NFL team, an NFC team so I could go to a few 49ers games a year, the 49ers being the visiting team, I will still stay a 49ers fan even if the L.A. region gets an NFL team, but seriously, Cowboys and Steelers fans don't get crap given to them, backlash for being a SoCal Cowboys, Steelers fan yet when those SoCal Cowboys, Steelers fans are not even from Texas or Pittsburgh, don't have any friends or relatives from there either.

I'm in the SD area and I am a 9er's fan. Guess it's a given since I grew up in the east bay but still.

One day you will be old enough to move to an area where you like the football team.

Anybody ever heard about a deep, dark, longstanding rivalry between SF and LA? Might have something to do with it.

Also, the Rams were archrivals of the Niners for many years, so you're dealing with two virulently anti-Niner factions: old Ram fans who are used to defying the Niners, and RaiderNation.

And those in SoCal who despise anything from the Bay Area.

i've only received crap from Bay Area people, not SoCal people yet, but the Raiders belong in Oakland, I don't get why they are still associated with L.A., they have been gone from L.A. longer than they were there

The 49ers are an NFL/NFC team so were considered a bigger rival than the AFL/AFC Chargers and Raiders to old time Rams fans like me. I've warmed to the 49ers since the Rams moved and our beloved Cal football announcer Joe Starkey also calls the 49er games.

So what? why is it socially acceptable to be a Cowboys or Steelers fan and not be from Pittsburgh or Texas, not have any relatives from there either, overall, not have any sort of social connections to there, but it is not okay to be a 49ers fan despite living in California your entire life?

If you're a true fan, then you don't give an F what is "socially acceptable" to other fans, wherever they're from, whatever the sport. No one needs anybody's permission to route for one's team.
