Nice article though I went to Salt Lake City briefly once and it's not like there's a bunch of Republicans dressed up like cowboys wandering around yelling at you for not being conservative enough.

In any case the guy is right, it's pretty amazing how much nature there is in SF. Go to the Presidio or Land's End or several other city parks and you really feel like you're out in the wild. (Yeah I know, the Presidio naturally was basically a giant sand dune before people developed it) You don't really get that in most other big cities, especially on the East Coast or Midwest where everything is developed, especially shorelines.

I don't see how it felt kinder or gentler.... More scenic for sure but the rest is authors imagination! Evidently the author hasn't traveled much in the US because then he would have realized that SF is as far from kind and gentle as possible by US standards.
