The Sunset is nice and laid-back and affordable by SF standards. The Sunset is mostly White and Asian. Neighborhoods like Excelsior are a bit more diverse but they border the rougher neighborhoods in the southeast section of The City. This really shouldn't be an issue though. The OMI (Oceanview-Merced-Ingleside) neighborhood (known to locals as "Lakeview") was a majority Black neighborhood in SF from the 70's through the mid 90's. There are still a lot of Black folks concentrated in this neighborhood, but Blacks are no longer the majority but represent 25-50% of some blocks. This area is lightyears safer than it was a just few years ago and has become very gentrified. Housing stock here is still a bit cheaper than many other parts of The City. Crime there is still an issue and it may be a still a little sketchy at night mainly around the Broad-Randolph-Caine St corridor; but this area is still not that bad.

Not sure why you needed to mention your race and "allergies" Anyway, I agree with other posters, that Inner Richmond and Mission would be my choices if I were "young, gifted and black with allergies" - just messin with ya!!

The bay area in general is such a beautiful place, I hope you enjoy!
