I'm thinking about moving to San Francisco, and I'm wondering where are the best neighborhoods for me to live in. As in what are the nicest areas, but...

I'm pretty hell-bent on living in a safe neighborhood, so I'm ready to pony up the $$ should that be necessary, but of course I'm cheap!

I'm also all about diversity, and I don't want to have to worry about being black (though I hear this isn't a problem in SF).

I also like having good views, and a bit of privacy.

I'll be relying on Public Transportation to get around, at least for a while.

Where do you think is a good fit?

I'm very quiet, fairly laid back, and care more about safety and finding friends that partying, etc.

Most of San Francisco is relatively safe, outside of the southeastern part of the city, the Mission District east of Mission St, and the Tenderloin. Your skin color won't matter, but your $$ will (it ain't cheap).

Really depends on how much money you wanna spend. Russian Hill has some great views of the bridge and the bay. It also has Polk St, where there is plenty of bars/nightlife.

I like the Inner Richmond personally. Right by Golden Gate Park, a little quieter. You Still have the hills and stuff to do if you want. Noe Valley is nice too but I don't know how much $$ you have to swing to rent there.

Good luck man!

Or the Inner Sunset. I'd also throw in the Outer Haight, Cole Valley, Outer Mission, Bernal Hts and Glen Park.

Money talks, especially if you have good credit. Rental prices within SF are starting to move into Manhattan territory, I'm not kidding, I've been seeing $1600 for a studio in really ordinary neighborhoods. If you can't hack the price of a studio and can't find roommates at your budget (when the market is swamped it's very hard to get people to respond to your replies to their roommate-wanted Craigslist ads) I'd look into Oakland and Berkeley. Oakland has a ton of cool neighborhoods and is way more diverse than SF in terms of class and race.

Why not Jack London Square in Oakland? It's diverse, but has one of the highest median incomes in Oakland OR San Francisco, great views of the bay and SF city lights, and more reasonable price tags. Heck, even on a moderate income it would be completely plausible to buy there.

Is it bad that $1600 for a studio apartment doesn't make me blink anymore?
First time I read that sentence, I was like "Yah, that's what it costs."

I guess I'm a native now

Why is it that anytime someone gets on here and says they want to move to the city, some folks end up recruiting them to Oakland? Why not just give them the advice they were looking for on the city they chose organically? That's why so many of us find people moving here looking for a cheap alternative to SF, rather than moving here out of their own interests and love for Oakland. Please stop helping Oakland to become a suburb of SF, thanks.

Because SF is ****ing expensive just within about the last 6 months. OP didn't state a budget, and I just suggested the East Bay as an option. Take a chill pill.
