Were coming from the Phoenix (AZ) Metro area so your right I wouldn't have thought have using a service like this.

Thank you Chup76 that calculator helps a lot.

I have one more question, has anyone every rented a residents garage space through craigslist vs renting a space at a parking garage? They seem to be priced and seems like the better option if I don't have parking available were I plan to rent. Also, if I wanted to go a street parking route do I need a permit? How much would that cost/last and are you constantly having to move your car?

The area where you are looking does require a residential parking permit. Without a sticker, you would need to move your car every 2 hours from 9am-5pm M-F. I think that they just recently raised the price of the permit to $100/year. Depending on the exact location of your place, the parking will probably vary from moderately difficult to very difficult. (It will be very difficult if there are other multi-unit buildings on that block.) Even with a parking sticker, you will need to move the car for street cleaning (scheduled posted on signs on that block). Note also that you need to move your car every 72 hours if you are parked on the street, regardless if you have a parking sticker or not.

Renting a space in your neighborhood is a common option here, it's like $200 a month or so.

If you don't do this, getting a city parking permit is a good idea, last time I checked it was like $50 a year but I'm sure they've raised the price since then. In most neighborhoods there's a small number of streets that let anyone without a permit park there, and most streets require you to have a permit for that neighborhood to park for more than 2 hours. Either way, you do have to move your car a lot because they do street cleaning 2 to 3 times a week on any given street in SF, so you have to move your car every couple of days if you aren't using it and make sure you're on top of the street cleaning schedule. You get a permit sticker for the specific zone of the city you live in and on every block there are signs listing which sticker you need and what the street cleaning schedule is.

Actually, it is going be around $ 6,500 after taxes. Also, SF doesn't have any additional taxes..

It's $100/year now. Actually, most of the city neighborhoods do NOT require residential parking permits. (See map here: Add a Permit Area)

Interesting, I didn't realize so much of the city wasn't zoned for stickers. But those are the most heavily populated parts of the city, so you'll pretty definitely want one if you want to park on the street.

Well the Republicans will probably raise taxes on the measly 100K grossing worker bees and lower the tax rate on the top 1% earning in millions. Cuts in govt services and education, widely loved by republicans, is effectively a tax increase on the middle class and working class.

FYI, the effective tax rate in CA, i.e. if you count sales tax (9.5% in CA) and other govt fees etc., is well over 50% at 100K income level.

No your calculations are way off unless you have 5 kids and own a house! For most people $5600 is about the max they will get as take home on a 100K income.

I think that you're right. I wondering if the poster meant that $100,000 annual gross would translate to roughly $65,000 annual net (as opposed to $6500 monthly net).
