I recently found out that I have to move out my pad due to Iolani school expansions so I am moving to SF bay area in April instead of June. However, I am not sure of what to expect in terms of housing. I was advised to find a weekly hotel by someone living in SF because that is what gave him time to find a roommate. I don't want to be in the weekly hotel situation forever. I am expecting to be in one about 2 months, which should give me ample time to find some sort of work arrangement.
I am a bit weary about the weekly hotels since I have been reading things online about them being less than desirable accommodations for temporary stay. I have been checking craigslist, but its best to make a move on rooms for rent once you are in the area.
BTW, I have not secured employment yet and I am currently looking for an internship in counseling in the area. Please give as much info as possible and I would greatly appreciate any help given to me on this forum.

Aloha.

You need a temporary place to stay while you go look for a place. So, if not a weekly hostel then where? Hotel will be too expensive and sublet will tie you down.

My advice is don't drag your feet. Once it gets to summer the rental market will be crazy, even crazier than it is now.

A weekly hostel? Are there any you can recommend?

No, no, no to the hostel idea . . .just rent a furnished apartment on a month-to-month basis . . .you don't want to live in a flea-bag hotel.

I agree, avoid hostels and look for an apartment or a studio on a month to month basis with no contract obligations. Housing in SF is not cheap, but if you look around, you can probably find a studio for around 1,000 dollars.

Rent a private room off Craigslist - cheaper, and you don't need a long-term lease.

I think I will try and go the private room route, but will have to stay in a weekly hotel/hostel for my first week there just to get squared away. Thanks for all the responses. I am not sure if I will be able to live in SF, but Oakland is pretty close to it so I might get a room there.
Thanks for the responses.
