Looks like a very pretentious place. Almost unpleasant to be around.

Union Square used to be high end. I haven't seen it lately, but it's the posh shopping area.

Upscale shopping district attracts rich tourists. Thus, proudly pretentious.

Check out Santana Row down south if you want more of the same.

Marina might be the champion for overall douchiness.

It's you. Union Square is full of tourists and the people who can afford to shop at the stores there. There are higher end stores there and, if that's not your thing, don't go.

I think there are other areas of the city that has more douchebags per block.

No, the Marina is. Union Square is a surreal mix of high-end shopping and desperate, crazy homeless people.

You know. I forgot about the crazy homeless people or just the crazy people.

A friend and I had lunch in Union Square a few weeks ago as we'd grabbed something from one of the food places on Kearny and walked over. There were a few instances of crazy around us: some man having a wonderful conversation with his imaginary whoever, another man stalking pigeons (like not just playfully, but like aggressively stalking pigeons), and a few other oddballs. I don't think all of the ones in the park that day were homeless though. However, they were definitely crazy.

Not sure I agree. Some parts of Union Square have street vendors, homeless people walking around. Is that considered douchey?

Are tourists considered douchey? I'd have to go with Marina and Mission for douche capitols of San Francisco, each of a different type. Mission has the hipster douches, Marina the yuppie douches.

I like Union Square, visit Richmond, CA if cafes, designer stores, and tourists offend you.
