Unlike the waste of money proposed for that bullet train to Hanford(LOL), this project will have direct impact on improving traffic on a very busy freeway, 580.

And yet a second Transbay Tube, a Geary subway, or a 30th Street infill station are completely out of the question. Shame.

Good news. along with the San Jose extension this will really help out the horrible 580, 680 and 880 commutes. Now, on to Cal Train electrification. These are real projects not boondoggles.

Not sure how it will possibly help the traffic on 580 when most of that traffic doesn't originate or terminate in Livermore.

Unless it goes downtown it's kind of a waste.

How are those out of the question? The 2nd Transbay tube is basically going to sought after, once the San Jose extension is done or near done. Presumably with that tube, will be the Geary line (or a Geary/19th Ave. line). It was in BART's metro vision, and out of all the projects, the 2nd Transbay tube and Geary line were the finals. Same with infill at 30th and Mission.

As much as I think Livermore is not important, it's already been studied and in progress. Whereas Geary/ 2nd Transbay Tube, just begun official research and support from San Francisco City Hall just a while back.

Yea but traffic clears up once you pass the Dublin/Pleasanton Bart. A station at livermore is going to get a lot of people off the road with out question. Tons of people from the 209 and Livermore use bart.

do you think there will ever (like way, way in the future) be an extension of BART from Santa Clara to Milbrae that will completely encircle the south end of the bay?
and maybe even crazier, do you think there will ever be an extension into Marin, crossing the GG from SF?

No, and frankly it'd be stupid to do so since we have Caltrain to fill in that (It's like the commuter trains in Chicago). It runs just as fast (faster for baby bullet/express trains). You'd be getting a worse system that is WAY WAY more expensive to build (especially if you want express tracks).

I'd rather they invest in Caltrain by adding more express tracks (preferably entire stretch between SJ and SF), work to grade separate more of the route, and and electrify the trains.

I wouldn't mind seeing Caltrain combine with BART as one agency, but I have no desire to see a BART system replace Caltrain. It would be a step down, and for the price of BART in that area, we could completely redo Caltrain's system and still come out way ahead.

background: daily Caltrain rider, and weekly BART rider.

Would love to see some sort of train public transit connection from Marin to SF, but don't think it'll ever happen. More likely to get a crossing between San Rafael and Richmond than Marin to SF.

At least the completion of this project would coincide with the timeframe for the delivery of the new BART cars, and we can have 10 car trains running everywhere.
