Default Tech companies hiring 8,000-plus in San Francisco

Awesome news! The City is really carving out a name for itself in tech.

This is just the city btw, not including any suburbs.

This is great news! Because I really don't want to expand the range of my next job search to the Peninsula or South Bay!

Enjoy your annual rent hikes until the bubble bursts.

Down here in Long Beach there's "for rent" signs all over the place, like 10 on every block, and rents are pretty cheap compared with SF. Too bad it's not really near anything.

I know this doesn't make you feel any better, but that's less than a lot of places...the rent in my apartment building went up about 15% this year (200 dollars a month more) in the last few months. And I don't even live in the city!

I've been hearing of some really nasty rent hikes in some of those luxury/high rise apartments in the SOMA/South Beach/Mission Bay areas...(hundreds of dollars more a month). If you live in the city in a rent-controlled apartment, be thankful (and don't move!).

That's great news for car congestion reduction on both freeways and in the city. I could see more cyclists!

Thanks for the post.

macys.com just signed a huge 242,000 sq ft lease for its ecommerce department, to be located at 680 Folsom St in SOMA.

This article about that lease signing also has a list of major tech expansions recently announced for the City.

Problem is most of these tech employees will be filled by people that don't actually live in the city. They will probably drive up from Silicon Valley. Also this does help out the average worker who doesn't have a btech background. They should give preference to city residents, that way to keep the economy of the city moving. Residents need to be able to buy things in the city they live in. The other big hiring this year will be Target. One Target will open at the Metreon and the other will be at the old Mervyn's at Geary and Masonic. Hopefully each store can give a few hundred jobs out.
