Remember the song from the summer of love that stated, "If you're going to San Francisco, don't forget to wear a flower in your hair" ??

It brings up a simpler time in America when hippies could live in San Francisco and the youth were into politics and love.

I wonder if there is still any Hippies left in San Francisco with flowers and love?

oh, I HATE that song -- it is SO overplayed....

To answer your question -- the hippies grew up and moved to Berkeley. They now live in gorgeous houses that are worth lots of money and drive BMW's, although in their hearts they haven't sold out. By day they might be straight laced businessmen and women, but at nights and weekends they are writers and musicians still fueled by the earnest need to "come together".

But the Haight is now filled with homeless people and drugs.

I wear flowers in my hair (especially when I tie it back on my way to the gym or beach).

My username is also moonsavvy, so I think I might be a little on the hippy side.

Many of the hippies have had to buckle down a bit and work for "the man" to avoid being priced out of SF...

Fairly true that ironically, many hippies in the area are actually quite well off. Perhaps they found enlightenment through making lots off money. By the way, don't forget to save tibet.

There are still plenty of them in the Haight... sure, they look more like homeless addicts now (which they usually are), but the Hippie vibe is still alive!

I live in the east bay and for whatever reason my friend had a flower in his hair one day when we went into the city, he almost got his ass kicked by some black guys.

Real hippies fled cities long ago. The Haight is a gimmicky neighbood banking on the past. It's got a ton of "thrift" stores gouging people for hip used clothes. I went into a "punk" bar and ended up paying $9 for a Long Island. That's not love.
