Hello.

I was offered a job off of Lucas Valley Rd. in San Rafael. My soon to be husband currently works in San Leandro but will try to transfer to Marin if possible. I don't know if we should live in Berkeley and I take the san rafael bridge over or if we should live near San Rafael and he take the bridge, drive to Richmond and possibly take the Bart. Hours for both jobs are 9-5 but he sometimes goes at 10 and is off at 6:30.

If he would have to do that drive, I would want to live in a safe one bedroom apartment in San Rafael or anywhere near that area where traffic won't be so bad. I really know nothing about this area's commute or safe areas to live in that are economical for someone paying off student loans. If anyone can provide any guidance, I would truly love it. I'm getting so discouraged I'm trying to convince my fiancé that we should live apart. Thank you in advance. I only have a few weeks to move in and a wedding day set for a month from now do any help would be amazing. Thanks

San Rafael should be fine if you can afford it, and it's pretty affordable. Sounds like you just need to figure out whether your fiance will be working in San Leandro or Marin, if you're both working in Marin then definitely SR is a good choice. Where are you living now, is it convenient for getting to central Marin? Otherwise you could live somewhere in between like El Cerrito or Hercules.

I live in Reno now, so I'm definitely going to have to move.

As far as budget, I would love under 1700 but safety is most important.

Thank you two so much !!!!

If 1700 is your budget, you should be able to basically rent anywhere in Marin, barring possibly Tiburon.

If you can, I would explore the area and see what looks good to you. Personally, I think Mill Valley, San Anselmo, and Fairfax are all extremely doable.

Check out Craigslist for prices. Good luck

Don't live apart from your fiancé! I've tried it, and it didn't work out so well. Better to spend a little extra time in your car.
