Default Where to buy men's clothing in SF

Hey,

I just moved to town and need new clothes. Unlike some other posters (someone from NY comes to mind), I just need clothes.

I'm male, early 40's. Never wore a hoodie before and am not going to wear one now just because others do - that was meant to say that I'm not looking to wear what the cool kids wear (because I'm not cool).

At the same time, I don't want to purchase from any stupid chains.

So I'm looking for some true locals recommendations. Where do you locals shop for new threads.

Yes, I'm talking some clothes that you'd want to wear when taking your girl out on a date or going out and want to look good (without breaking the bank).

Thanks for any advice.

BB

Ross, Marshall's, the Gap, etc, same as anywhere else. There are a lot of small boutiques all over the place, both international chains or local stuff, but they will be expensive. Most shopping is around Union Square, both high end and low end. There's a Macy's there, a Gap, an H&M, a Levi's store, and you could also check out the Westfield Mall on the south side of the intersection of Powell and Market.

Everyone wears hoodies because it's chilly! It's like the opposite of a fashion statement. But hey, if you don't care about keeping warm...

I'd be interested to hear what people recommend. I can't think of any place that isn't a department store or chain.

I appreciate the responses but so far all I've gotten from the responses is chains. I DON'T WANT THEM!

Come on, locals - there's gotta be some stuff that is not chains.

This is San Francisco!

There are boutique clothing stores on Hayes street in Hayes Valley, on Valencia in the Mission, and scattered around the Marina and Cow Hollow. I suppose you could check Yelp if no one here has a suggestion. Might be fun to just go browsing if you have time.

You're in your forties, time to start wearing nice clothes. Go to Barney's in Union Square and buy some quality and timeless pieces, then you can mix and match with cheap things like Gap or Banana Republic. For shoes, you can invest in a nice high quality shoes (expensive, unfortunately) from Barney's and then by some others cheap, but stylish shoes from Aldo.

Strongly recommend driving down to Target in Daly city. Also there is a Walmart near Oakland airport!

BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY in SF is a good place to find a name brand coat or suit at a discounted price, they use to only give store credit if you return an item, but now they will give a full refund within 30 days of purchase with a receipt

899 Howard Street
San Francisco CA 94103
