If that's such an important factor in your quality of life (no judging here, when I was 26 it would have been too!), then you blew it by not taking that into account when accepting the new job.
By different you mean ugly?

Speaking from a woman's point of view, there are many datable women here in the SF Bay area. There's something for everyone. The hipsters, the geeks, the Asian women, the Catholic girls next door, the college students, the working woman etc. There's no one "type". It all depends on where you look. Many happily married couples I know met at work actually. If you're young and hip...go to an art opening. Or place an ad in Craigslist!

I had blithely kind of ignored this issue, but, erm.

I guess I better start wearing my wedding ring again. This is getting awkward.

I hate to say it but I somewhat agree with NYCtoSF on one issue and one issue only. The lack of women in SF who seem to put decent effort into their appearance. It's like they just don't care and then wear it as a badge of pride.

Maintaining appearance and the appreciation of ones (and others) aesthetic beauty is a great and wonderful thing. It's not a vice but a virtue. In some vain attempt at "mainstream" rebellion (really, its a form of conformity) the fair ladies of this city are ultimately reducing their own quality of life.

Laziness is not sexy.

As a lifelong NYC resident be careful what you wish for. The women here dress up 24/7 ( not even for the guys; they're competing with each other) and it's tiring.

A good looking woman will look great in a t-shirt and jeans. If a woman's a dog, no amount of dressing up will help.

Or maybe the message is to not judge the book by the cover. If you demand vapid bottle-blond beauties, there's always L.A.

I had an interesting chat with one of my guy friends on this issue of the attractiveness of women in the Bay vs LA.

Women in the Bay are generally naturally attractive.
Women in LA try very hard to look attractive. They may not actually be attractive, but they try hard to appear to be.

So they average woman in the Bay is going to look a lot like the one you met last night the next morning. In LA.....not so much.

There isn't much of a dress up culture her in the Bay. Workplaces are casual. The weather goes through all 4 seasons on a given day. And people are more likely to be walking not driving (and transit stops are infrequent and far apart, so you just can't hop on the bus to get where you are going in a timely manner, half the time it is faster to walk).

And the Bay attracts a lot of the outdoorsy athletic types, who are little less likely to put a lot of time in appearance. So if you are hoping for women in cute outfits and heels, this isn't the place.

This city needs fewer hipster chicks and more bimbos in my opinion.
