the thing is there is no incentive for out of towners or people from out of state to leave San Francisco to wander around in oakland. what is there in oakland to attract ppl away from SF? even for people in the bay area.. aside from the warriors/A's i dont have any reason to go into oakland.
SF is the better city. this location is so bad ass for a new arena.

Its kinda funny that the arena is going to be facing right at Oakland too. Hey we might not have the team but we are whats viewed from the observation deck. Its time for Oakland to focus on its strong points, shipping and industry, Medical, and food services ( food packing, restaurant supply, ect.) there is no point in competing were we know we cant win. tech is silicon valley, banking is SF, Oakland is industry. Its what we do.

Well i wouldn't say there is nothing in Oakland for people in the bay area. we have chabot space and science center, and the Oakland Zoo which is the better of the two zoos in the area. There are a number of great places to eat as well as the Paramount and Fox for shows and a number of other small venues. A national draw Oakland is not, unless your a foodie, but Oakland is a regional draw.

if you've been to the chabot space center, how is it compared to the lick observatory in san jose? ive wanted to go to both but never find the time to go.
agreed the oakland zoo is better than the sf zoo. sf zoo blows.

Funnily enough I agree with this. Oakland will never outdraw San Francisco when it comes to Financial firms, and talent. The same with SV when it comes to tech firms and talent.

But I do see Oakland being a center of light and heavy industry in the Bay Area, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I have never been to Lick, as far as i know its nothing like Chabot though. Chabot is more like an exploritorium, or pacific science center. It has interactive exhibits and a planetarium. Much more designed as a science center.

Yep thats my point Doc, oakland is trying to be something its not and isnt focusing on what its good at. The city has a unique ability but simply ignores it to try and be more glamors so to speak. Oakland actually has the infrastructure to be an industrial mecca with a world class port by all measures, good transportation access, and close enough to major financing and skilled workforce. Its like city leaders dont want to do this cuz its not sexy. the bay area already has a hot girl, and a smart girl, we need one that can actually do work now.
