Did you just try to insinuate that there's an area in Downtown Oakland more dangerous or seedy than the Tenderloin or Civic Center? Would you care to name it?

You sure that it isn't just the crime that bothers you about Oakland? Sure sounds like it.

downtown oakland is shady as hell after all the business people leave to go home. during the day its nice but when the sun goes down it just feels weird. and yea tenderloin is an anus but theres more people around so it doesnt feel as unsafe. but who goes to the tenderloin at night? theres nothing there unless you're a hooker or a bum.

Those who are attending a show at the Warfield. Always a unique joy parking and walking around Ellis, Eddy, Turk, Mason, etc. in the middle of the night. Such exotic, interesting people! Yet always a bonus to find your vehicle still there, and in roughly the same shape it was when parked.

Stupid. Downtown Oakland is very clean. The Tenderloin is about the worst downtown you will see in any major city. Mid Market, Soma, and and Civic Center are obviously under the influence of the thousands of drug dealers, drug addicts, homeless, and mentally ill people. Not saying that its all you will see in these areas but their presence is obvious. Nothing in Oakland is quite as nasty as these areas. No hate on SF, not even defending Oakland just being realistic here.

Downtown Oakland is actually much nicer overall than the Tenderloin--far more livable and pleasant too. Also Downtown Oakland's population grew by 30% between 2000 and 2010.

Such a comparison doesnt make a lot of sense.

Clearly you haven't been to Chinatown/Uptown/Old Oakland after 5 PM. Scratch that, you sound like you haven't been to DT Oakland since 2000.

lol literally nobody wants to go to downtown oakland for any reason. leave your 'oakland pride' aside and face the facts. and yea, im really trying to spend an evening in downtown oakland to admire the old timey feeling the walgreens has. such an attraction to behold.
10 times out of 10 a person will choose san francisco's chinatown over oakland's. for reasons that needn't be posted. same reason people go to giants games more than a's games. why 49ers games are always on TV and why raiders games are blacked out some times.

i didnt compare downtown oakland to the tenderloin. the fact that people are comparing the 2 speaks for itself. the 1 square block that makes up union square in san francisco > ALL of oakland's downtown. all of it. oh wait the amazing shops and ambience in old oakland are so much better right.
dont understand why people get so sensitive over oakland. not like people are flying from other countries and cities to visit it for u guys to be so 'proud' of it. and thats why the warriors and A's will probably leave.
