Default Is it a safe walk bewtten McArchur BART and 40th/San Pablo Emeryville during day or night?

Hello guys, so far I have really benefited from all the wisdoms of all your locals, just want to say thank you all very much.

Now one more questions, I was looking at an apartment in emeryville, and wondering is it a good idea(safe) to walk between 40th/San Pablo in Emeryville and the McArchur BART station during the day and night?

Again, any insight from you nice local people is really appreciated. Thanks.

It's a crappy part of North Oakland but far from the worst, plus it's a short walk. I'd say during the day you'd be fine (maybe feel a bit uncomfortable if you're female) but I'd try to avoid it at night. Biking would be a better option unless it was raining. The Emery-Go-Round is an option but I bet its frequency isn't enough to make it reliable or pleasant for commuting. Honestly I'd look at apartments in Rockridge or east of Telegraph in the Temescal, which would be a fairly short walk to BART. Emeryville just kind of sucks as a place to live unless you really really want a new condo. Most of the retail there is chains in strip malls and after shopping there a few times you realize how it's all kind of run-down and ghetto, outside of Bay Street...and even Bay Street is just mall crap like California Pizza Kitchen and PF Chang's. Rockridge or the Temescal are way cooler and neighborhood-y.

Yup I agree. Walking in the other direction towards Piedmont Ave is fine. I have and do (I am a single female).

It's fine during the day. I would probably avoid that walk after dark. It's not a bad idea per se, but there are usually better options.

There are frequent Emery Go Round shuttles that run between MacArthur Bart and 40th/San Pablo. They are free and run every 10 to 20 minutes depending on the hour of day and it's a pretty convenient shuttle since there are no stops between 40th and San Pablo and MacArthur station in either direction. The last shuttle runs about 10:15 pm. After that there are usually cabs at MacArthur station until the last BART train which is about 12:45 am. A cab ride is about $5.

As with all urban areas, just be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine.

Get a bike. That helps a lot as the buses feed to the neighborhoods and AC transit isn't that frequent.
