Hello,

We are moving to the Bay Area next month and I have narrowed my home search to the Brentwood area. My husband will be working in Tracy. I have heard mixed reviews on the commute not bad, bad...etc....

The new thing that I am hearing is that the fog on the 4 is terrible. Is this true? So do people just inch along until they get to an area that it clears enough?

We have 4 kids: 15, 12, 9, 3...and want a family oriented community with decent schools. I've read that Tracy smells, Menteca smells, Ripon doesn't have anything around it in regards to stores. (these were the places i was thinking of) So with the amount of money we have and the quality of home I'm thinking Brentwood is for us. I thought Discovery Bay, but everyone said you need a boat.

So feedback on the Fog commute would be appreciated.

If your husband's job is in Tracy, why not live in Tracy. It doesn't smell and Manteca doesn't smell either. (What's it suppose to smell like??)

That area does get ground fog off and on in the winter.

Plenty of wonderful homes in Discovery Bay that you don't need a boat. Who gave you that load of

Anyway, yes there can be fog in that area at times during the winter. You'll get used to it. There can be a few days where it is socked in but for 99.9% of the year its fine.

If I had to choose I'd live in Discovery Bay as Brentwood is 5-10 minutes down the road. If I could get a house with a pool in Tracy I'd live there so I didn't have to make the commute (gas $$$ pay for the pool) which really isn't that bad.

They used to smell about 20 years ago when they were still processing sugar beats at the Spreckles Sugar Plants. They dont do that any more so the smell is gone. That's why they used to call it Man-STINKA.

I have heard that the Brentwood area is a great family area. With decent schools. I am getting a feeling that the Tracy, Manteca areas may be a little more rough around the edges. I just want the best area for our family and that will also work with my husband commute....and yes I did hear that the areas stunk from the sugar plant....good to know it doesn't anymore.

+1 on the MH^^^ if you can find a foreclosure eveny better.

Rent for a while before you buy. Once your here for a while and more comfortable with the area your limited perspective will change.

Forget Mountain House! It is extremely inconvenient with no supermarkets and no high school. Your kid will be going to high school in Tracy anyhow until they get a high school built there someday.

There is Tule Fog and then there is Ice Fog (Tule Fog when it's below freezing at ground level). It's known to happen near and in The Delta.
