I like mild cool weather much better than hot or tropical weather, hot weather wears you down and ages people, ever see a person that lived in the desert all their life? they look over sunned and leathery with deep wrinkles

sunny & cool ocean breezes is the best

I'm considering moving to SF from Pittsburgh. Talk about bad whether. Summers in Pgh are in the 80's and hazy/humid. Fall is beautiful in October with the leaves changing but when November hits, you have freezing rain and dreary clouds all the way through til march and temps can get in the 20's in January (that's cold). Spring gets warmer but again, more clouds and rain. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the whether in SF. I don't like dreary cloudy days but I'm assuming it's not as bad in SF as it is here in Pgh. I think it depends on what you're used to and what you like.

First, as everyone around here knows, there is a big difference between weather in San Francisco and in, say, Los Gatos. I'm now mid peninsula most of the time, and sure it gets chilly sometimes...but most weekends, it's sunny and I wear shorts. It doesn't get as nasty and humid as it did back where I came from - or as bone-chillingly cold. All in all, not much to complain about. People who think the weather here is horrible should try experiencing year-round conditions in about 90% of the rest of the nation.

I find Oakland to be pleasant most of the time. Summer of 72-75 is perfect to me!

But it is not dry were I live. It is not the desert and CA I get chapped lips when I step off the plane. And when I am at the beach here I am under a palm tree. I am probably whiter here then when I am in the Bay Area. I am way more cautious of the sun here.

What I love about Puerto Rico is the entire island always has a nice breeze. Always. I left my house by the beach at 2 PM and it was 86 degrees with a super nice breeze. It was perfect. By the time I drove 7 miles inland it was 93 which is hot but when I got out of the car (and the AC) there was that breeze again. 93 is too hot but the constant breeze is nice. 86 for me is the perfect temperature.

And I have to tell you I have a bunch of friends from New York and they say the summers here are NOTHING compared to the humidity in New York. So I am sure there is much worse humidity.

Well, I'm sorry to say this to people -- the weather here isn't everyone's cup of tea. I know when I first moved here, I thought it was PERFECT. Now, at 52, I'm feeling the chill more. For two days the thumb joint in my left hand has been KILLING me, hampering my rotary cutting (left hand holds the ruler tight), and I have to IGNORE it for the sake of my nieces wedding quilt.

And I also see a lot of older people all bundled up.... to them it's cold.

I became less tolerant of heat as I went through my 30's. Now at times, even Oakland feels a little warm to me but it never last too long. One thing I do love that some others mentioned they didn't are the cool nights here. I like it cool when I sleep. When I check the weather, I am always so pleased to see the temps and especially pleased to see dew points in the 40's and 50's. I like knowing the dew points won't get into the mid 60's like they do in San Diego during summer. As jade said, the clear dry air is great.

I never, ever got this. I was always freezing. I think it is way too cold in the Bay Area. Way too cold. Why do so many people think we have this great wether? I never understood this.

I live in San Juan, Puerto Rico now and the weather here is awesome. We are about to go into the humid season which will last 3 months but the other 9 are gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

I miss a lot of things about San Francisco but the weather is NOT one of them.

Is it that so many people come from places with really terrible weather that they think the Bay Area wether is that great?
The "great weather" emphasis here seems to be what people cling to because they have nothing else to talk about, outside of themselves.

IMO, the temperature is only a part of what makes up the nice weather here. I happen to think high humidity is a bother, which is not a problem here. I've never been to San Juan, but aside from the beautiful women there, I imagine that it's gorgeous, warmer, and tropical.

I do see your point about the chill in the places that you mentioned. It does feel cold, deceptively so.

Riding through Woodside, there are wooded areas there that NEVER get warm. So I can see OPs point.

A friend of mine grew up in the bay area. When asked where she would like to empty nest to, she said she'd really like to move somewhere warm and sunny were she could eat outside. We suggested 10 miles southeast. She lived in south city, and then the mountain side of San Mateo. Most days are socked in.
