^That. San Pablo is by far the most dangerous strip in West Oakland with MLK or West (in the upper 20's and 30's) at a close second. Generally speaking, the farther west you go in West Oakland the nicer it gets. There's some exceptions on both ends (Oak Center on the eastern end is one of the safest neighborhoods in West Oakland while the Lower Bottoms on the western end is one of the more dangerous; most of the notorious projects are in the western end) but the area around San Pablo between W. Grand and Market is known as the Killa 20's for a reason. Ghosttown is equally dangerous and while Dogtown is seeing a lot of gentrification these days, it's still no BS.
18th & Adeline is the middle of the pack for West Oakland. The houses on that part of Adeline are nice and 18th Street is okay in the daytime (it's a main neighborhood drag) but stuff still happens, and especially around DeFremery. If I was going to live in that area I'd choose to live east of Market.

there's tons of shopping like a 5 min drive away in Emeryville (Target, Trader Joe's, Home Depot, Ikea, Bay Street, etc) and if you're desperate there's a Pak-n-save too

In the past month the area has had over 47 assaults, 11 of those where a firearm was discharged (not necessarily where someone was killed).

Well, like I said, Uptown/Downtown are about a 12 minute walk to 19th St BART from my place, and there's plenty to do there...
