Seriously, is this something to be proud about? Is this because most of the gang members have been killed off already?

I agree with roadwarrior, this is nothing to be proud about... I know too many people whose lives have been destroyed by the untimely deaths of family members and friends to be glad that it will "only" happen to a little under a 100 people in Oakland this year.

How wonderful. Seattle (one third larger) will have one quarter that many. San Francisco at twice as large will have half that many. Pretty dubious distinction.

Actually Seattle already has a quarter of that many, they're on track to have around 50 this year.

How did you come up with half a year being over? June 3rd is the 154th day of the year with 211 days left in 2012.

Exactly. The year is young, and that number still puts Oakland on track to have the top homicide rate per capita in the entire state. This isn't good news at all.

People who know each other committing violent crimes on themselves in a few sections of the city clearly means that Oakland will burn to the ground by the end of the year.

Look beyond the numbers you morons.
