in my view the chronicle is the publication that that trumpets crime in oakland while blatently downplaying crime in san francisco
for example this story was not covered by the chronicle
http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/young-girl-shot-leg-chinatown-playground

think about it
a 5 year old girl shot = big news
a playground shooting = big news
a shooting in a tourist area = big news

this is a news cycle trifecta and the chronicle did not run a single word.

I have said this before and I will say it again.

Tenderloin is worst than any place in Oakland. Some of the areas around Market are much worst than anything in Oakland.

east oakland is where like 80% of the crime happens the rest is in west oakland. downtown is pretty safe hills is always safe well maybe the mountain lions could eat you at night.but if you take away east oakland and some of west oaklands crime would drop by like 95%.I love this city better than sf because it has more space. believe it or not every other part of oakland is changing for the beter other than east oakland flats which is a hell hole.

As long as you aren't looking for trouble and use your street smarts you can have a good time in the flats although admittedly there isn't much to do there outside of events at the Coliseum and the Fruitvale.

I actually had to pick up a friend at Oakland International, and had to pass by the Coliseum during the day time. My gosh, no wonder the Warriors and A's are leaving. The entire area around the Coliseum during the day time literally looks like it's been abandoned for years. Besides the "new-ish" looking Condos or Apartments around there, everything looks like it's been rotting for years and years. The lifted area of hegenberger that connects to 880 is literally covered in graffiti, my friend thought it was one of the most ghetto areas he's seen of any major city he's visited.
Besides the large area of vacant land next to the Coliseum itself there's nothing wrong with Hegenberger, it's your typical commercial artery with a few factories that come into the mix when you get closer to the BART.

I remember there was a homicide on Cyril Magnin (near Union Square) in broad daylight back in either 2006 or 2007. There wasn't a single word about it in the Chronicle. Nada.

I couldn't be happier that the Chronicle is going down the drain.

That could be true. I noticed that once you got farther from the BART/Coliseum it just seemed like a typical lower-middle class neighborhood. The area around the coliseum though is simply old, industrial, and unattractive as a place to hangout. I know why the A's and Warriors are leaving.

Default Oakland-Murder capital of the world

Wrong.

Stats show that overall, Oakland is much worse than SF's TL. And if you compare East Oakland than SF's TL, East Oakland is much worse. I guess that is why Oakland has earned the nickname, "The murder capital of the world".

As much as C-D is known as "The BS Hyperbole Capital of the Internet."
