Last year we sold our house in Oakland, heading back into the rental market for a bit. Didn't even look for place to rent before the house was sold (what's the point of looking before you can move in). Instead we moved first into a furnished appartment at the Lake Merritt Hotel, where we stayed while we looked around for the rental of our dreams - in Alameda. Took about seven weeks. In the meantime the LMH was quite the prison - nice place, great location with the lake right outside all of our windows.

There's no need at all to get stuck in traffic commuting from Fremont to Oakland. It's about 10 minutes on the BART train. (or 15 mins, depending on the part of Oakland.) Very convenient. Leave your car and the stress of commuting at home.
