Hi

So we are moving start of August and applying for SSN upon arrival as we will be authorized to work in the USA. I think someone said this should take about a week, but a company has asked me to have a skype interview with them for a job which has a start date of when I arrive.

Can you start a job without the SSN in hand or do you have to wait to do it right.

Thanks

it's been over 40 years since i applied, but at that time they hadn't me the card (with number) right then and there. ask your employer. if they are supplying the work visa they would know all the details. any income earned has to be applied against the social security number, as far as i know.

You need the SSN when you're filling in the final paperwork for your Human Resources department, but that's usually only after the interviews are done and they're making you a formal offer.

you can't work in US legally without a SNN or company sponsor. You can apply for jobs, but make sure you have a SNN soon, not months after your interview.
