Default San Franciscans, I need your assistance for nightlife

A few friends and myself are visiting from NY the end of August and we're staying near the Wharf area on Bay St.

What are some bar options you can recommend, or just areas in general? Streets with good dive bars/lounges/good beer, type. Areas similar to say, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Soho, East Village, etc.

Thank you in advance.

The Mission or Lower Haight will best replicate a Brooklyn/East Village experience. Maybe The Marina for more of a Soho vibe?

Also check out The Fillmore and Union Square areas for good bars, live music and a few clubs mixed in for good measure.

North Beach (I prefer Grant Ave., but Columbus is lively too, basically Grant/Columbus/Filbert triangle)
Marina/Cow Hollow (Union St. from Franklin to Steiner and Chestnut St. from Fillmore to Divisiadero)
The Mission (Valencia is a good start, but there's much more to it)

There are many more areas with a local scene that have not been mentioned - SoMa, Hayes Valley, Haight/Ashbury, Cole Valley, Potrero Hill, Inner Sunset and more. And who can forget Castro?

From Fisherman's Wharf, head up Broadway. Plenty to do there.

Hang out in Marina District (Union Street and Chestnut Street)... you can even walk there from Fisherman's Wharf.
