Default road trip from seattle to San Francisco

Hello Friends ,
I am planing a road trip in the 1st week of September to San francisco

Any relcommedation's on which route to take ?

Current thought is to take I-5, but if I also want sight seeing of oregon costal line.

What if I take 101 half way and then connect through I-5.

Among the neighoring cities around scan franciso , which one would the cheapest motel to stay.
Will have a overnight stay, it should be relative safe. Since I will going with family.

thanks

If you're not in a hurry, take 101. I've done Seattle to Berkeley in about 14 hrs., non-stop, if you were wondering how long it takes. But if you can take your time and enjoy the sights--and parts of the Oregon rainforest are absolutely beautiful, along the way, then by all means, do so.

I stay at Motel 6 wherever I go. They're usually cheap, and quite decent. However, in some areas, they raise their rates on Fridays and Saturdays (weekend rates). I'd do some internet research if I were you. Fairfax is north of San Francisco in Marin County, a laid back little place, would make an affordable and pleasant stay. Redwoods abound in Marin Country, and the ocean is nearby.

Just be forewarned that traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge can be nightmarish if you're anywhere near commute hours.

How many nights do you want to take to go from Seattle to San Francisco?

You should stay in San Francisco when you get here because you'll end up paying a lot in gas, tolls, and parking fees if you stay at a surrounding city.

In 2001 we took 101, was a great trip! We stopped & played along the way, took our time, relaxed. M we stayed in Lincoln City, OR & Cresent City, CA. We drove into the city over the Golden Gate bridge. I picked up free traveler magazines at one of our stops, we stayed at a nice hotel down on the waterfront for cheap with coupon from the mag. Along 101 are many cute shops & visitor stops, very scenic.
