I am flying into SF airport and need to get to a job interview (with overnight accommodations) near la honda. I want to do this as inexpensively as possible. I thought of taking public transportation and then rent a car near my destination. Any suggestions?

I would just rent a car at the Airport and drive to La Honda. You could take the Caltrain to Redwood City and possibly rent a car from there, but why bother? It's a little over fifty miles from SFO, so the drive is an hour tops. I think it would cost you more to do half public transit half rental car.

If you rent a car at the airport, you can take the slightly shorter (distance), slightly longer (travel time) gorgeous coastal route. Depending on what time of day you'd be driving it should be clear skies and scenic views. I'd avoid it if you arrive at SFO after 4pm, since the coastal commuters will congest the two lane (with occasional passing lane) road.

SFO to La Honda would require three bus rides and a taxi. Plus there may not be many places to rent a car out in La Honda. It's pretty remote there.

Working for Ken Fisher Investments ?? The closest hotel/motel would be in Redwood City and most of them are along El Camino Real (Hwy 82). There is no lodging in Woodside or La Honda. It's a winding 2 lane mountain road to La Honda. One of the better places to eat in the area is Alice's Restaurant | You Can Get Anything You Want At Alices at the intersection of Hwy 35 & 84 (don't mind all the bikers). This area is in the mountains, heavily wooded and very rural - but it's beautiful!

I'd rent a car at SFO airport. I don't know where you can rent one in Redwood City or surrounding area.

La Honda is in the middle of the utter middle of nowhere. Rent a car at the airport.

Here's a crazy idea. Fly into SJC and skip the fog delays, traffic delays and hassle of SFO. Seriously, if there is ever a possibility of using San Jose -- and yours seems like a good one -- only a crazy person would pick SFO.

I drive to La Honda once a year. You want to rent a car at SFO and drive down 280 just to enjoy the view of the reservoir and the hills - it's really gorgeous. Then merge onto Woodside Road and enjoy the drive through the redwoods.

Or, if you'd like to join them, rent a motorcycle. (But you'd have to travel to San Francisco for that.)

I agree - fly into San Jose, save a lot of headaches.

Then go down the road to Applejack's. Original, old-school Merry Prankster/biker/mountainbilly bar from stagecoach days. Pure La Honda locals vibe.

Glad to know 'Jack's is still there. Hadn't heard of it in years.
