Wondering how safe this area is as I found a rental I like.

61st St at Vallejo St Emeryville CA 94608, on the Emeryville side, Vallejo St. is the Oakland boundary. Emeryville Police Department jurisdiction which I'm told is a plus.

Landlord said it's safe, just don't wander off east to San Pablo Avenue at night. Been to the library at 56th and San Pablo during the day and it seems fine. Walked around 62nd, 63rd and 64th streets and it seemed okay too as long it was on the Emeryville side.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Not horrible. Not great. To be honest, it isn't really different in Oakland, Emeryville or Berkeley over there. It is improving in general, this is an up and coming area, but personally I wouldn't live there.

This area is west Oakland and is not safe. It's also isolated. I would NOT move here.

Most of Emeryville is secretly West Oakland.

Couple that with the fact that there is a ton of traffic, it is annoying to drive in, bike in, walk in and tack transit in, I really see no real benefit of living there (unless you absolutely must have a shiny new apartment) over Oakland or Berkeley which both have better amenities, better neighborhoods and easy access to whatever big box stores you planned to visit in E-ville.

Thanks guys, the reasons for wanting this location:

1) I can walk to work over on 59th St.

2) I have amod edit car which wouldn't attract thieves.

3) The place is a duplex with an attached apartment, so 9 people live on the property and the odds of it being empty and subject to break-in seem pretty low.

4) Co-worker and I walk to Trader Joe's or drive to Best Buy/Target a lot, it seems pretty easy to get there.

Thieves steal mod edit cars because they're easy targets and the parts can be valuable. E-ville has a high incidence of property crime in general due to the number of transients and workers..

North Oakland, not West Oakland.
