Hi there, we moved from Melbourne 7 months ago and are now in Belmont in mid Peninsula. We considered Millbrae as it's the last station on the BART, which is much more frequent than the Caltrain. You need to look at greatschools.org to research schools, and Craigslist is best for getting an idea of prices in the area. I have plenty more tips about kids and schools, etc at my blog, resettleus.com.

which do you prefer? I'd love to go to melbourne!!! maybe it just looks perfect on paper?

Our life in Belmont is better, but the location itself is not as pretty as home. I think the lack of variety in architecture along the Peninsula is a problem for me, and it's hard to find a decent recreational swimming pool. But I do like the weather and people.

I spent a few days in Belmont, I love that area better than Hillsborough where I have relatives there. What I love is the houses are more prevalent than those in the Hillsborough, I mean they peak out instead of hidden in trees. And what I don't like about Hillsborough, or the peninsula is the proximity to the airport, you see UFO lights all night long. Having spent around Belmont, I love the area near Safeway, it has a family-type atmosphere. Someone told me that they ban smoking in most, if not all areas of the city which is a plus for me. Having not lived there, only spent time there, I can only give you this account, good luck on your choices.
