But this too is easily resolved... there are many manufacturer of fully biodegradable "Plastic" bags... yet those that have the mantra plastic bad refuse to listen to science... drives me up the wall.

They don't really have a plastic bag that degrades into nothing on contact with seawater. There are biodegradable bags, but they have to be in soil, in contact with bacteria in the soil. Sitting in seawater, they don't biodegrade.

Most of these plastic bags are recyclable, but people don't recycle them. Hence the ban.

Trust me this is VERY MUCH based on science.

What should be done about plastic bags? - BBC News

The chaos from SF is now spreading throughout the 9 bay area counties so Livermore is expensive now but not as much as SF where a fixer upper house will cost you a million. Rentals of studio apartments will run $3,000+ per month. (this is from a resident point of view)

As a visitor it's different but you still pay more here and get less for your $$$$ and end up in never ending traffic gridlock.

I would consider Nevada, Wyoming, Montana and maybe Idaho to retire.
Thanks for the info, but I was taking care of some family business (re the time in the Bay Area), not checking out places to move to.

The state would have to turn in a completely different direction for me to want to move back...and I doubt that will ever happen. Way, way, way into the future (if my quite long lived grandfather is any indication) my ashes (which can't be taxed going forward!) will eventually rest in our family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, purchased when the cemetery was founded.

If I ever left Texas, it would probably be for Clark County (Las Vegas/Henderson/etc) Nevada, either Pinellas County (Tampa/St. Pete metro) or Lee County (Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Pine Island, or the mainland) in Florida, or somewhere in Washington state outside the Seattle metro (Spokane Valley is not to far from the Idaho border, still no state income tax, and relatively close to CDA and the beautiful lake there, as well as other nearby lakes.).

Mountain View is a very historic final resting place for many mover and shakers in California History as is the Julia Morgan designed Chapel of the Chimes next door... have family at both...

No matter where I travel is seems people have very definite opinions about California and Californians... and I have been asked about the shopping bag rules in my travels.

I knew that Frederick Law Olmsted designed Mountain View Cemetery, but I didn't know Julia Morgan designed Chapel of the Chimes. Good to know .

I was walking down a street in Sweden in the mid 80s, right before Christmas, and I saw a store display with a Santa doll sitting in the driver's seat of a toy Porsche 911 Targa (with the removable roof panel off) with a toy surfboard lodged in the passenger foot well, sticking out above the roof line. The display also had other California scenes that I don't recall.

A lot of it could be to early TV shows in syndication that were very popular in Europe...

Some that come to mind are Bonanza, Streets of San Francisco, Falcon Crest plus several other set in LA shows...

yOU are wise and Wouldn't want to partake in anything that is going on in CA now. It has gone completely downhill than what it used to be. It's only getting worse and more expensive to live here.

And yet people still come and vacancy rates are near zero in some areas with multiple overbids on homes and people standing 20 or 30 deep viewing rental apartments.

I'm not sure where the disconnect is... but the word has not gotten out.

What I am seeing is droves of friends and colleagues cashing out and taking their California windfalls to other States...
