I'll probably get like 1 response but whatever. I'm thinking of boxing again and haven't found a good boxing gym in SF. I visited Polk St Gym and it seemed too much like an aerobics class there and kind of lacked quality trainers. In LA I trained/sparred at the Wildcard and liked my experience there, it was personal instead of classes and a fair price. Third street gym costs more than the Wildcard not including the personal training you get at wildcard, but I just don't want to go to a gym where the routine is a group class consisting of skipping rope, sloppy bagwork, no padwork, followed by pushups, situps, and burpees.

The only boxing gym in the bay area that looks like it can compare to Wildcard is Kings Gym but that's more than an hour away from my office with public transportation.

Yeah I recommend King's. Where's your office?

Yeah I read up on King's and the prices seemed very reasonable, and if that's where Andre Ward came from, hey, that's good enough for me. I work too far away to go there though.

I trained at 3rd street gym around 2005-2006, right after it opened. It was a pretty good place then, with some serious boxers training there (and is run by a former golden gloves boxer), but I haven't been there in years, so I couldn't tell you what it's like now, aside from the fact that it seems overpriced.

Yeah, I understand both 3rd street and Polk have fighters but if you've trained at the wildcard you would know the difference. I don't know about 3rd street, but when I took a class at Polk it was essentially a tough boxercise class. The only person in that day who I think was qualified to teach boxing was the owner. I talked to him and he seemed like a nice guy but he looked more interested in signing new members than coaching.

Regarding 3rd street gym, I wonder what the difference between the "advanced training package" and the class package is. Either one seems overpriced. It looks like here in SF you will likely be trained by someone who has minimal western boxing experience whereas at the wildcard I believe all the trainers were pro boxers at one point.
