Default A couple of weather links ...

... for folks like me, who might wonder how typical this morning's downpour is for S.F. -- excuse me; I meant SFO -- at this time of year.

Answer, or my interpretation of it: typical enough.

That last one is the most interesting. Atmospheric rivers do occur, and they'll occur again (like now), but then the odds of having 43 days of relentless rain again are infinitessimal. But certainly a more-likely 12-day stretch, for example, could wreak quite a bit of havoc. So we don't need an even like 1864 to make life rough.

The current weather situation is not terribly common in so far as it's been a number of days with heavy rain. The weather data you liked to shows an average of 4.6 inches for the entire month, spread over 12 days of rain. On average, there are only 3 days of rain per month that receive more than 1/2 an inch. And that part -- the amount of rain per day, times the number of days, is unusual. But not historic at this point. Something we might see every twenty years or so.
