Some place where gunplay isn't a cherished hobby.

This is the problem with Oakland's crime... excuses, excuses, excuses. Let's not admit there is a serious problem with our city, if someone doesn't want 36 bullets in them, well then they shouldn't have talked back. Oakland's crime is out of control and getting worse, yet its residents keep making excuses for it and turning a blind eye saying, well all cities have crime. No pressure on the politicians to crack down.

Exactly. You mouth off to someone at Starbucks in Sioux Falls, you might get yelled back at. Heck, you do it in NYC, you might get the finger.

You do it in Oakland, 36 bullets. It's kind of getting ridiculous.

Uh you live near Hunter's Point? A hood known for a terrible rap. Yet, somehow you're okay, still alive, and posting. It's funny how you're willing to overlook the crime that surrounds you just because you live in SF proper and got a good deal on a condo, yet you chime in about Oakland's violent crime constantly. Who are you to talk about violent crime? But more importantly, what have you done to solve the violent crime problem that plagues your very own neighborhood?

You are trying to change the topic, but oh well. I don't actually live in Bayview or Hunter's Point or even drive through either district. The street I'm on has a luxury apartment complex, luxury town homes and office buildings. It's closer to Little Hollywood if you had to pick a neighborhood or you could call it Candlestick, but it's not on the HP/Bayview side. Anyways, it's not relevant. There is only one mayor per city. The problem I see with Oakland, at least on these forums, is no one seems to admit there is a serious crime problem. Oakland's murder rate is increasing. It's fighting for the highest crime rate in the entire country. The Feds want to take over OPD for crying out loud. I don't make excuses for San Francisco's crime. It's slightly above the national average, which is not okay with me. I support proposals such as "stop and frisk." However, the crime rate in Oakland is more than double the national average. The murder rate is 400% + higher than in San Francisco. The trend is getting worse in Oakland. Instead of saying, the crime is getting out of control etc, you simply like the others, say well there are bad parts in your city too. I don't understand that mentality. I'm not saying you need to be the one to solve the problem, but if you don't even admit there is a problem, the people with the power to fix it, won't feel pressured to do so.

It's pretty simple. Every time you mention Oakland having a problem with violent crime, I'll just simply remind you that BV/HP has a problem with violent crime too. After all, once you finally admit that the murder rate in that part of the city is out of control and higher than the national average, things will magically be solved right? RIGHT?

You act as if Oakland residents aren't aware of our city's problems or that they don't bother us. WE GET IT ALREADY: OAKLAND HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH VIOLENT CRIME. Does pointing out the blatantly obvious make you feel better about yourself?. What exactly are you hoping to accomplish here?

The thread is about "gang issues", and Oakland has a lot of isses with gangs and violence. If the thread's content is distasteful to anyone, perhaps they shouldn't click on it in the first place.

Food for thought.

I find it extremely peculiar that someone would read the title of this thread, then complain vehemently about the subject matter being discussed.

Thank you!

I'm trying to get people to stop turning a blind eye and pretending there is no violent crime problem.

And who on here do you think is turning a blind eye to crime in Oakland? Not anyone I've noticed.

Well you did say the majority of "gang violence" in Oakland isn't really gang violence and that it was turf wars between "2-3 people" in crews (what's the difference between a "crew" and a "gang" anyway). If that isn't a "blind eye", it's certainly misleading and inaccurate.

2-3 person crews don't rack up 120 homicides in a year (or even half that). Who would they shoot at? Wouldn't they just kill each other off? Yet homicides in Oakland are climbing again. Heck, when Al Capone was in his prohibition hey day, he didn't rack up even half of that in one year. Oakland has a huge gang violence problem and your statements seem to brush it all under the rug, I think that's what bmw is getting at.
