Now...
I'm not a religious person by any means but...
Has anybody heard the expression here but for the grace of God, go I. ??

You never know.
One day YOU may be looking for a handout.
I try to give whenever I can.
What difference is it gonna make in my life?
Might make a HUGE difference to somebody else.

Great post......but on the flip side how many people are collecting and have generations of their family collecting? If 3 generations of a family are on welfare then the system isn't working!

Folks, the thread is on homeless, not welfare. Start another thread if that's the topic. Thank you.

When I politely refused to give it to him, he began yelling the same types of venomous obscenties at me, stating that I was a bi$ch, a traitor to my race and accused me of sleeping with the white guys that I was with (the were five of us: 2 white guys, 1 hispanic guy, myself and another black woman). He even followed me inside the restaurant yelling and screaming obscenities at me! I was terrified, but kept my cool and remained quiet. One of the gentlemen in the group that I was with stood in between me and the crazy guy and acted as a shield to keep him from hitting me. It wasn't until I yelled for help that the waiter came over and ran the guy out. Everyone in the restaurant saw and heard what was going on, but they just acted like it was my problem and did not want to get involved. It was an extremely terrifying experience and it took me a long time to stop trembling and shaking.
Wow...

When I'm traveling on business I usually give them my to-go box of food if I have any left over. In Chicago, I had a homeless person decline two large slices of deep dish pizza because she didn't like sausage in her pizza. In San Diego I had two orders of boneless hotwings from Hooters (which were fantastic - especially the cajun flavor!) which I gave to a homeless guy walking by. He couldn't have been nicer and more grateful.

Yep, this has happened to me many times. I have learned, sadly, to not make eye contact and shake my head "no" and keep walking. I do not talk to anyone who approaches me. In my household, we say "DNE" or do not engage. This has happened to me in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley. On the street, on the BART, and once at my front door (that was scary as #$*@)!

I've also had a weird string of events with tweakers screaming at me--from across the street!--to stop touching them or laughing at them.

I almost feel a bit disappointed if this doesn't happen with every visit to the Haight or TL. Like I'm just not getting noticed anymore .

Dude, the cats outta the bag. You are BDG of Citi-Data.

That's C list, at least. You are cleared to hang out with Kathy Griffin or similar.

Good, she'll make a good buffer between me and TL junkies, so I can get to the Warfield in one piece.
