I think it's funny that people will complain about the supposed cost when it's a polarizing figure that fought for gay rights, but I can almost guarantee that if it were to be renamed Matt Cain or Jerry Rice Airport nobody would bat an eye in SF...

So what did John Wayne do to deserve *his* airport?

That's not fair. I wouldnt support the airport being named after either of those 2 people.

Do we have to politicize everything? including the name of our airport-and this airport really is the global point of departure and entry for not just SF but all of Northern California and then some.

He didn't consort with known criminals and mass murders like Jim Jones for one.

John Wayne didn't but George Moscone did. It's well known the relationship that the Mayor had with Jim Jones. I guess we should tear down that sign.

Point being, who the hell cares what things are named after? If we're going to get into a pissing contest over the quality of the person which many monuments are named after, then we would simply be better off just naming it after cartoon characters. I kind of like the Tom and Jerry Airport....

Just what we need to be paying for; changing the name of SFO. This is defiantly the most important thing that needs to be addressed in San Francisco.

San Francisco Supervisor David Campos said the cost will be estimated $50,000-$250,000 to make the change official, Campos said there may be enough private donations to help float the cost.

To be in Dubai, and see on the board a flight that ends at Harvey Milk San Francisco International Airport, or to be a young Pakistani, in a country where it is illegal to be gay, look up and see the name of a gay icon and feel, 'I am not alone.'

Harvey Milk to THe LGBT commuinty the same stature as Martin Luther King is to the black community.

I think it should be embrace. Also there is currently 80 American airports named after someone.
