I did the reverse of that commute, couldn't believe people were sitting in stop and go traffic for 30+ miles at 6am. It doesn't clear up till around 11am either. What a nightmare.

Thanks for the reply. I have to move because I am losing my job by June. I could move somewhere else, but I have a job that isn't easy to find just anywhere.

I didn't plan to live in W Oakland itself but I would have to park there if I didn't take public transportation or get from the bus or BART to work so safety is an issue. I think a long commute is more than 20-30 minutes.

I will look at some of the neighborhoods suggested on craigslist. Does Oakland have the competition for housing that SF does? Meaning it takes a long time to find a good place that you like?

All of my most recent tenants are SF refugees... having SF definitely affects much of the Oakland market.
