When I ordered a lot of toppings it seemed like I only got 1-2 toppings too! lol
To each their own. I do love the crust on the deep dish at Zachary's

There's a new pizza place opening up across from Zachary's on College. I was pretty surprised when I saw the sign in the window.

The Lanesplitter in the Temescal (on Telegraph a couple blocks south of 51st) is really nice, it's a big spacious room with some tables outside. Their pizza's definitely not that great, too boring and mushy, but in that area there weren't many pizza options other than Zachary's mob scene (sounds like there's more now though!) so I went there a lot because I loooove Two Rivers Pomegranate cider which they had on tap, and it's a nice location to read a book and sip a pint while the sun goes down on Telegraph. In late afternoon a ton of hipster parents with their kids would go there every night. Might be annoying to some but I kinda liked having that kind of laid-back social hub in my neighborhood.

My favorite pizza places were always Gioia's and Arinelli's in Berkeley, best places in the Bay Area for thin crust imo.

I should mention that both Trader Joes and Whole Foods sell pizza dough for about $1.50. And, if you don't want to make your own sauce, you can buy that too. Ditto cheese options. Sur la Table in Berkeley or the Business Costco in Hayward sell pizza pans. With some experimentation, a rolling pin, a bbq or a stove, you can make a pizza for a fraction of the cost of going out. It can be fun with another person or a group of people. Worst case you can always order one to be delivered :-)

Couple of years ago we tried Lanesplitter. We generally get a half baked pizza and cook it at home..... and I ordered a large.

That sucker didn't fit in the oven. I had to bend it up a little on all sides... But it was good.....

Just be prepared to use lots of flower, and that it gets all over the place. Best to do that part of it outside.
