I read about it , however, said they believe this is the first time in 7 years anything like this has happened. During NYE there were some moron(s) shooting on Fisherman's Wharf and
someone got shot . I don't see people freaking out about that. (And when I was Googling for info, sure enough, a gang member
recently got shot and killed in that area recently too.)
Anyway, I've been to the Art Murmur a few times. My first time was last year in the spring. The summer is just the time to skip it as the weather is nice but there are tons of people everywhere. Moving around in all of that is just irritating.
The last time I went was in January. The event goes from 6pm to 9pm. The shooting occurred almost 2 hours later. There were still people out and about which is why 3 other people got caught in it, but I won't avoid going to the art walk. I'll just not loiter around after the event is over.

I have gone a few times since the beginning when it was Art Murmur and all about the galleries, to now when it was first Fridays. The last time was in January.
It is definitely way too crowded for me these days. I don't even go North of Grand or west of Broadway most of the time.
The city does need an action plan to handle the huge crowds First Fridays bring to downtown, it is extremely popular and packed with people attending from all over the region. Hopefully this incident encourages more formal organization and oversight.
