He said this is possibly the biggest public works project in state history, "but we've got some bigger ones coming". What are those, I wonder? And how will they be financed? Might he be referring to the high-speed train?

Im pretty certain the biggest public works project ever undertaken by any single US state was the California State Water Project.

I worked on Maritime St. and can recall the incredible noise of the pile drivers day in and day out. I can't believe that it will be nearly 24 years since the Loma Preita quake damaged the original structure and took down the Cypress Freeway.

That was a sad day.
