$300k won't even come close to buying a fixer upper in the districts the OP desires lol.

I re-read the post and there was mention areas outside of the city like Marin or the East Bay. Marin is out of the question as its one of the most expensive areas of the Bay Area. In the East Bay for 300k you're probably not going to find anything in this area either. 500k+ seems to be about the going rate for something decent.

You might probably find something good for $500-600k and pay lot less mortgage, free up your budget for something else. $1 million home is just too much.

Going from a $1 million home in Noe Valley to a $300k tiny fixer upper in a questionable part of Oakland, call me crazy, but I doubt that's what the OP wants or willing to do lol. If you raise the amount to $500k to $750k there are more options in good parts of Oakland and surrounding area, but still quite a difference from Noe Valley, but at least its an option.

There aren't really that many areas in the entire Bay, sketchy or not, where $300k gets you anything SFH.

Not even East Palo Alto gives you a nice home for $300,000 (or $400,000).

East Bay does not automatically = Oakland. I'm not even from here and I know that. I'm not sure if you all are joking/trolling or not, but there are homes in the 300K range in Concord. Is Concord considered sketchy? no.

Have you ever been to the Bay Area?

How can someone with the mindset of buying a million dollar home in Noe Valley, one of the best districts in San Francisco, even in the entire Bay Area then go to an old little shack way out in Concord?

Have you? I live in San Francisco, I didn't mention anything about Oakland yet when he said Eastbay you assume Oakland is the only place in the East Bay. Second of all a person making 250K per year should not be buying a 1 million dollar house with only 90 k to put down. My response was to somebody speaking about getting a house from 400-450K in that range. I wasn't aware 1700 square feet is a shack it's bigger than anything you'll get in SF or immediately surrounding SF unless you're a millionaire. Last Concord is about a 30 minute drive with no traffic. Again have YOU ever been here? Who cares what his mindset is, you're not getting a home where he wasn't for less than 1 million + It's reality. I'd like a 15 million dollar home in the marina, but guess what I have to come back to reality.
