Great info dalparadise. That really, really helps.

Pacifica and Daly City I was also told to look into. I heard through an acquaintance that there are certain areas that aren't so *safe* in Daly City...which ones?

bmw335xi, I also looked into hostels and am now guessing that they have monthly rentals? When I tried putting in my number of nights, I only had the option of 15. $900 is a little much but I am of course, being realistic and open to spending a little more. Yes, I know that it is SF.

Is this shared or private? Can you give me the info for this hostel(s) in Union Square?

Thank you 04kL4nD, as I (and most of the airline industry) know that SFO is the airport

By reputation, not personal experience, I believe Original Daly City is the part to avoid.

Otherwise, i think it's a solid, middle-class family neighborhood. I have a couple of friends who live in Daly City and their only complaint is the weather. They call it Daily Sh!tty.

That is funny and also good to know.

Colma is also close right? I remember seeing the name as we drove by...not sure but I remember it was close to Daly City, I think..

It's just cool and foggy in the Summer, but it won't rain from about April to November. Colma is nearby. It's known as a city with more dead residents than living ones. All of SF's non-military cemeteries were moved to Colma decades ago. If you have ever seen Harold and Maude, that's the site of the big cemetery scene.

The nice thing about living in Colma: very, very quiet neighbors.

I assume you mean pubLic transportation.

Colma and Daly City both have BART stations, but if you live far away from them your commute might become difficult or at least inconvenient.
