Can anyone provide any info as to the average monthly costs of gas/electric for a 2 bedroom apartment, 1 person w/ minimal amount of electonics. from PG&E?

Trying to get an idea of my potential costs.

You don't have to worry about PG&E costs for an apartment, unless it's one of the modern kind, with glass walls. PG&E for a whole house is a different matter. Most places don't have air conditioning; it's not needed 11 months of the year. Heat--also only needed a few months of the year. Get the new low-energy lightbulbs, and you won't have much of a bill at all.

Where in the Bay Area will you be living, btw? That makes some difference. Fog belt, no fog? Inland, where it's hotter, or by the bay?

We pay between $55 to $80 a month (gas and electricity) for a small house (1200 square ft, 2 bath and 2.5 bedrooms, split level).

I don't have gas costs at all, except in winter. I pay about $25/mo. on my apartment. People complain life here is expensive, but ...wtf? Some of it's practically free. Garbage is included in my rent. I pay virtually nothing for utilities. Enjoy, OP. Life is to be enjoyed, not worried about.

I pay around $45 - $55 for electricity in a 810 sq ft 1 bedroom in San Francisco.
My heater is electric.

900 sq. ft. In San Francisco with a steam radiator for heat (so no expense in heating). My windows stay open year-round. Garbage, water and hot water are included in my rent. My stove is my only gas expense. Total utility bills average $22-$27 per month.

I paid anywhere from$130-$410 per month for electricity alone in a 3100 sq. ft. House in Houston.

It's funny that the OP is asking about utilities on an apt. Are they a big deal in places like Chicago and NYC?

They can be in Houston. Some people pay $200 per month or more in electricity for apartments there.
