I know the areas of San Francisco Bay but what are the areas say North, East and South of the Bay called? I am thinking they might not be referred to anything since I can't find anything on line but thought to ask you all just in case I am not searching right.

The areas are called exactly that! "North Bay" (ie Marin Co, Sonoma, Solano Co) , "East Bay" (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties), "South Bay" (Santa Clara Co/San Jose region), and the "Peninsula" (San Mateo Co).

north bay, east bay, south bay.

san mateo countys bayside is called the peninsula, its coast side is called "the coastside" logically enough

some on the outskirts mite not like being lumped in the same boat as the bay area so for reasons of good form one should avoid being overally liberal in the use of the term "bay area".

I think OP specifically wants to know about areas OUTSIDE of SF Bay Area.

West of Bay Area = Pacific Ocean
East of Bay Area = Central Valley starting with Stockton
North of Bay Area = Mendocino County, land of the redwoods and pristine nature.
South of the Bay Area = Monterey/Salinas

Lifer Bay-area-ite, and I've never heard or seen use of the term "coastside." Since there isn't much out that way, it's mostly referred by destination, eg, Half Moon Bay.

As an extension of that idea, areas south of the Bay area are referenced by the specific city, eg, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Salinas, Carmel, Hollister.

North of the North Bay is "Mendocino" or "Mendo" and "Napa."

The Central Valley (east of Bay Area). The Sierras. (east of Central Valley). Mendocino and "up north". (Someone here had a term for the far north of CA, I don't remember what it was. Anyone know?) Central Coast (south of Bay Area). South of that: Southern California, or SoCal.

There's also: Lake County. (north of Napa/Sonoma, which border the Bay, but stretch north a bit and are very rural). Napa/Sonoma are also known as "wine country".

Foul, desolate and deserted places. Devoid of magnificent scenery, wonderful people and great sensations.
