Hey everyone, new to the forums and wasn't sure to post in general California or here. I'm currently in EMT-Basic training and would like to take it all the way to Paramedic + certificates as well as work as a per diem ER Tech. By the time I'm done all the necessary trainings, experience gaining and money saving, I reckon to guess that I'll be 31-32. I abhor the thought of marriage and children so like my uncles, I'm bachelor for life and will only have to worry about supporting myself. I lived in San Francisco as a student a few years back and would love to return(I'm not dead-set on SF, Bay Area will do). So, where is a good spot in the Bay for a single male in his early 30s to settle?

It depends on what your interests are. Nightlife? Berkeley/Oakland. Outdoors, beaches, hiking? Marin County, possibly Santa Cruz. Also depends on whether you like smaller towns or city life.

After living my entire life in Philly area suburbs, SF city life threw me for a bit of a loop the first time out. I learned to enjoy it but I'm a small town boy at heart. That being said, I'm super active and I like the outdoors. Trail running, mountain biking and hiking are among my hobbies.

I would say Oakland also. You would be close to the hiking and parks in the Oakland hills, which are beautiful.

Oakland has a large variety of types of women (assuming you are straight). And people are pretty friendly. I meet someone new just about every time I go out, without trying.

Small town boys with outdoor interests like yours would do best in Santa Cruz or Marin County (Fairfax, Mill Valley, anywhere around Mt. Tamalpais.) There are trails that descend to the ocean after you climb the mountain, amid redwood groves, and on the west end of Mill Valley, trails in a huge park bordering the Golden Gate. You'll think you've died and gone to heaven! The only catch is that the COL is a little higher in Marin, but the pay for your type of work may be, as well.

I read the whole thread and see no discussion of what the OP's budget is. That seems pretty relevant to me. Of course I lived in Chicago in a pretty crappy apartment, so I am sure there are plenty of places in SF for someone on a limited budget.
