Hi,

I'm moving to the highland park neighborhood. Just wondering if it is safe and also is it an interesting neighborhood? I know it is in East Oakland but it doesn't seem to be in the "flatlands" I've been reading about. Anyway, I've been trying to find information on it with no luck so any advice is welcome.

Where on East 28th is this location? The area to the south of Highland Hospital has a lot of crime. There is some good single-unit housing stock on East 28th and surrounding streets but there are also a lot of dumpy apartment buildings in the neighborhood.

However, East 28th Street to the north of Highland (between Park Blvd and Vallecito) is much nicer/safer - the street runs through the Bella Vista neighborhood (which is an largely underrated/undiscovered Oakland neighborhood).

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I'll be living in the north side between Park and Vallencito.

I would say that it's okay. The further north (towards Park Blvd.) the nicer it gets. There are some beautiful Victorian homes on Bella Vista Avenue.

ok, thanks. I was all ok with it, super excited to move there but then all those shootings happened in Oakland this past weekend and it kinda freaked me out.

I'm guessing the person you met was an attendee at the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Convention? There were a lot of attendees for that hanging around last week.

The neighborhood is full of residents and has been for a long time. Exactly who is it "undiscovered" by? Hipsters? Gentrifiers?
