Him even mentioning Oakland as a possibility is almost a 180 from where he stood just last year.

All we can do is hope.

If Lew Wolff wanted a Downtown Oakland stadium, it would be built already. He has the financial wherewithal to make such a thing happen. I love the A's, but as a lifelong fan I'm tired of being strung along by these owners. If Wolff is serious about this, let's see a plan. We already have several locations right here in the city.

I read the article. It seemed to suggest that ANY downtown would be a viable option compared with how dumpy the Coliseum is. Obviously he means San Jose, NOT Oakland. But once it's settled once and for all that SJ isn't ever going to happen, perhaps he'll reluctantly agree to Oakland's downtown. Realistically, if it were up to him, he'd probably pick Sacramento or Portland over Oakland though.

Precisely why this is such a huge deal.

Since 2008, he has NEVER publically expressed any openness whatsover at the idea of keeping the team in Oakland, even hypothetically.

We shall see where this ends up but this development is very promising imo.

I don't think I've ever been to a baseball game. Am I missing a critically important cultural experience, or is it something that can be safely missed?

There is a reason why people get drunk at baseball games... it's BORING! I've gone 3 times in my life. The first time I was a teenager and fell asleep. The second was in college where I ate a lot of food and tried to stay awake half way into the game. The last time was shortly after college where we got drunk and started chanting the name of this one player whose position was right in front of us. It was the booze that helped make it fun, but still wasn't enough to get me to go again. You are waiting what feels like hours for a good hit, so by the time one comes, your eyes and mind are somewhere else and you catch the last 10 seconds and then wait what feels like hours for the next one.

Any one who had gotten their hopes up for Lew Wolff caving in and seriously considering a DT Oakland ballpark, check out this tweet from John Shea: https://twitter.com/JohnSheaHey.

Humbling, isn't it?

Nah, I think I'm inclined to stick to my initial impressions. Thanks tho.

Sorry, but after years of following his rantings, it should be clear to anyone that methodical loons like Lew Wolff don't have slips of the tongue.

It's out there, he said it, now we'll see if anything materializes out of it.
