Sounds suspiciously like a chest-puffing East Coast machismo thing. Which many transplants in SF gladly moved away from.

I also moved here from Chicago and lived in New York for seven years before that. They've all got their pros and cons. What I like about SF, so far, is:

- Weather
- Natural beauty
- Abundance of good Asian food
- Laid back culture
- Abundance of small/medium-sized, local grocery stores
- Healthy biotech industry
- My commute to Marin

What I don't like:

- Relatively lower commercial density, at least off of major commercial strips
- Relative lack of bars with great food (probably just need to get more familiar with the city)
- Thin walls/ceilings in apartments
- TV stations that start with K rather than W. I just can't get used to it!
- Lines/waits. People in the Bay Area have seemingly endless patience to stand in line!
- Wimpy pedestrians (i.e. limited jay-walking)
That one is just funny to me. Come to San Diego, we have a couple that start with X as they broadcast from Mexico LOL

Having lived in norcal and Socal, I am always quite amused at how "obsessed" norcals are at comparing themselves to socal, and showing norcal pride. Conversely, when living in socal, I don't recall anyone ever bringing the issue up, they just didn't care (although, you could buy a "keep L.A 100 miles away" sticker in Santa Barbara...

This is a common theme in this forum. In all my years of living here, I've never personally encountered this. I think the NorCal/SoCal rivalry is vastly overrated on this site and in reality it's mainly confined to sports teams.

While it's not a subject that's really discussed much either way I do find people offer their "opinions" about the subject more often up here, even when their opinions weren't really solicited. Some people seem to get very defensive if you say positive things about SoCal as if it's some sort of slight or competition with Northern Ca.

I seen this too but only when it comes to LA. From my experience, people in the Bay Area seem to like San Diego.

Yeah more times than not people are talking about the LA area when the subject comes up.

With that being said, LA is perhaps the most hated city in the country.

Tell me about it. The most hostility toward Los Angeles I've ever encountered was from NoCals, while going to school in.....San Diego.

Not just a norcal thing. I've heard people in SD bash LA. People in Seattle do and my family in Phoenix says it happens there too. LA just isn't well liked.
