Reminds me of the HMB-1 barge that was in the port of Redwood City where the first stealth ship was built. I had a friend who worked on that project. He probably shouldn't have. The secrecy was something he didn't do well with. Hughes Mining Barge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I read at least a year ago that google was planning this barge apartment complex to put up non-citizen employees. This way they could by-pass the visa people in a sovereign territory. For now though I think they're getting way too much attention, so they'll probably come up with something else to divert attention to the real story.

Let's just say there will be A LOT of happy Indian IT employees when this materializes. I'm sure they'll have a free shuttle and free food delivery. With all the money that google saves by hiring primarily off shore-ers, the services will be over the top for the third world members and a drop in the bucket for the payers.

If it was for avoiding citizenship requirements before, it ain't now:

The mystery barge in San Francisco Bay is indeed a Google project, and houses a fancy, floating showroom for Google Glass and other products, a CNN affiliate is reporting.

Google, Twitter and Facebook are advertising companies and not tech companies, they just use IT to sell their ads. In the last decades no silicon has been coming from the bay area anymore, everything is produced somewhere in Asia. Lame indeed.

There is only one reason twitter's ipo did not end up like facebook.

The ten people who stood to gain the most, did not unload all of their crap at the same time.

But in FB defense, they knew the IPO was garbage.

Either way, the tech boom of today is all about data mining and phone apps. Nothing really impressive like the tech boom of the 80's and late 90's. All hype, like wall street.

Maybe that is why all these hyped out people from the North East keep moving here.

Yeah, it is all about violating and selling privacy and 0.79$ apps these days. I wonder when the decay of Silicon Valley will start to affect salaries, house prices etc.
