My husband 4 year old daughter and I will be relocating from Southern California to the SF Bay area in 30 days and are at a loss as to which towns are best for our needs. My husband will be working in the SF Airport area so we need somewhere within an hours commute to the airport. We will be renting for the first year and are looking to spend $2500-3000 in rent per month. We would preferably like a small house to rent with a back yard and are willing to live further out from the city in order to have more space. We would like to live somewhere with a great sense of community, some place that has good school systems as well as some great outdoor parks. We are very open to any suggestions - thank you in advance for your advice!!

I apologize if this post is redundant, I have searched other posts in this forum on relocation and still have a million questions, just hoping someone out there is kind enough to help us out! Thank you again!

Belmont, San Carlos, Burlingame. All safe, all have good schools, all have good sense of community and you should be able to rent a small house on your budget (Burlingame will be harder). Great, pretty family towns with a ridiculously great commute to SFO. If you go the Belmont/San Carlos route, there is the SCBMC (San Carlos/Belmont Mother's Club which is huge and very active.

Good luck!

You will not be able to rent a small house in Burlingame for 3K/month, but you will be able to rent a nice 2 br apartment or condo for that price. You might be able to find a house in Belmont at that price range if you move quickly upon seeing it advertised. There are a few homes (listed on craigslist) at this price in the hills of San Bruno - an area which gets lots of fog and possibly in SFO's flight path (but the commute to SFO will be just minutes).

Talking Thank you!

Thank you so much for your suggestions, these are all towns I am unfamiliar with and give me a great starting point. This relocation thing is stressful!!! Main concern for us is having a back yard as the daughter and dog need a place to run...Any additional suggestions are greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

BART goes to SFO, so cities along the BART line would work. Probably a good idea to look in the east bay.
