So on Thanksgiving I drove over the 680 bridge. I paid the $5 with cash, the gate lifted, and I drove off. Yesterday I received a $30 Toll Evasion notice in the mail. There is a section that says I can contest the violation which is what I am going to do. Has anyone had or heard of this issue? What did you do and what was the outcome?

I've received a similar notice before (not sure what bridge it was now) and if I remember correctly there is some online form where you can contest it. I remember I just said that I was sure I paid it (which was the truth) and they were ok with that.

Default This is absurd

I just received a violation notice for the Benicia-Martinez Bridge for November 27th.

I did drove on the bridge on my way up to Napa for Thanksgiving holidays and I clearly remember I PAID the $5 dollars toll.

Now I got a violation notice and they want me to pay $30..... weird.... how can I prove I paid cash? They didn't issue me any receipts.

I recall in that moment actually telling my girlfriend.. how can they keep track if the employee actually charge me or simply lets the camera snap a picture and he/she can pockets the 5 bucks...

What should I do now?

It seems that the situation is resolved, but in the future, you can request a receipt. When I visited New York I made sure to get a paper printed out for me every time I paid a toll in case the rental company or the local ticket collectors decided to try to ding the clueless Californio.
