Hi everyone,
My husband just got a job in livermore and we are considering living in napa. Would this be a horrendous commute for him? His hours would be 7 to 6. We found a house we love in napa but are worried about the commute. Any comments would be greatly appreciated especially from people that have fine this commute during peak traffic times and how it is. Thank you!!

Yes it would be awful, look in Livermore, it is also wine country.

On a traffic free day it is just under 2 hours. The way home would be torture as you would run into all the commuters along the way from SF and Silicon Valley.

Agree with Jade, that commute would be insane! I would choose either Livermore or Pleasanton/Dublin.

That's a horrendous commute. Just awful. I would cry.

The Livermore area(Livermore-Pleasanton-Dublin-San Ramon) is very desirable and has a great quality of life. Just a thought.

Brentwood if your looking for something similar to Napa and a whole lot closer to Livermore. Also SouthWest Livermore has some VERY nice wine country type neighborhoods. I did quite a bit of Landscape Contracting there a few years ago.

You'd be trying to get through the SF Bay Area on your way there and back. That would be like working on one side of New York and driving through New York to get home every day, if that would put it into perspective for you. You'd be willingly driving through a huge metropolis known for it's horrific traffic. Would quickly turn a person insane.

Go visit Napa on the weekends. Hot springs in Calistoga, too :-)

That would be the definition of insanity. Might be better most days if you lived out of state and flew in daily.

I did a similarly long commute. I had my dream job, but I still quit after two years because I just couldn't stand the commute. I've heard similar stories from other people. He could probably do it for a while, if its the best job of his life, but otherwise, I'd pass it up for something closer.

Are you coming from out of state and have no point of reference to either of these places or the commute in between? Why, if you got a job in Livermore, would you even be LOOKING at Napa?
